The design of this vase is inspired from National Palace Museum's Underglaze-blue porcelain globular big vase with lotus-and-dragon décor of Yongle reign in Ming Dynasty. This vase is decorated by draconic pattern, which showcase its exquisiteness and an imposing manner of the king. In order to achieve a bright color and lustrous shine a layer of transparent glaze would be painted over the design before theware could be fired at a high temperature (around 1300℃) . This example of underglaze-blue porcelain is called a celestial globe vase because the body is round like the shape of a celestial body. Both in shape and decoration, celestial globe vases from the Yongle and Xuande reigns are known to be especially exquisite and refined. Areas of the vase neck and body not taken up by the dragon itself are filled with flowing lotus stems and flowers. The powerflu dragon image forcefully converys the supremacy of imperial power.
